VisionLink

At MDM Mining and Civil, we’ve always believed in the importance of preserving our land while executing our projects with the utmost efficiency. As a 100% Indigenous-owned and operated company, our commitment to our community and the environment drives us in our daily operations. Currently, we are engaged in a comprehensive rehabilitation program at the former Argyle diamond mine in East Kimberley, a process that will span over five years. In this undertaking, we have found an invaluable ally in technology—specifically, the VisionLink® Productivity platform.

Harnessing Telemetry to Enhance Operations

Understanding that our work involves not only construction but also a deep respect for the land, we leverage VisionLink to gain high-level visibility of our fleet and jobsite operations. With a fleet of 22 Cat® machines, it’s essential that we monitor every aspect of our operations. VisionLink provides us with easy-to-use, cloud-based access to machine telematics and jobsite data, helping us transform raw data into actionable insights.

This platform has revolutionised how we track our performance. Instead of relying on outdated methods like whiteboards and manual logging, we have real-time metrics at our fingertips. This means we can make informed decisions swiftly, ensuring that our operations run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Driving Productivity and Reducing Costs

By implementing VisionLink, we have seen significant improvements in our productivity levels. The platform allows us to monitor critical metrics such as fuel consumption, idle time, and even our carbon emissions. This data enables us to lower our cost per tonne, improve fleet utilisation, and reduce unnecessary costs associated with our operations. With VisionLink, we’re able to not only enhance productivity but also tackle the environmental impact of our activities.

Mika McLennon, our Director and a Traditional Owner of the land, emphasises the importance of utilising technology in our business. “We’ve got all our data and information at our fingertips. It doesn’t take a lot of man-hours to capture it, which then generates conversation about how to operate better,” Mika shares. This collaborative approach fosters a culture of continuous improvement within our team, ensuring that we are always looking for ways to enhance our services.

Providing Enhanced Service to Our Clients

The benefits of our investment in VisionLink extend beyond our internal operations; they directly benefit our clients as well. Clients can trust that MDM Mining and Civil is consistently working towards improved operational efficiency, which translates into timely project delivery and cost-effective solutions. We understand the importance of maintaining budget constraints and timelines for our clients, and by utilising VisionLink, we’re able to offer transparency and assurance in our operations.

In remote areas, such as our project near Halls Creek on the Tanami, VisionLink acts as an extra set of eyes. Our team can monitor real-time conditions from a distance, ensuring that we respond promptly to any issues that may arise, thus minimising downtime and maximising productivity.

Embracing a Culture of Safety and Accountability

Another critical aspect of our operations is safety. VisionLink aids in ensuring the well-being of our operators. With the ability to monitor seatbelt usage and other safety metrics, we can proactively address safety training needs and create awareness among our team. This integrated approach not only protects our workers but also builds a culture of accountability that resonates throughout our organisation.

Conclusion

As MDM Mining and Civil continues its mission to rehabilitate land and return it to its Traditional Custodians, technology plays a pivotal role in our journey. Through VisionLink, we are not only enhancing our productivity and efficiency but also ensuring that we lift our clients and communities along with us. Together, we strive for a future where operational excellence and environmental stewardship coexist harmoniously.
